May 20th, 2008- The Dwight Fire Department with heavy hearts accepted the resignation of Chief Pete (Dale) Olson. Chief Olson cited reasons of a personal nature upon his departure. Chief Olson began his tenure as Chief in 2007. His first action as the Chief was to promote Lt. Darrin Shull to Deputy Chief with the Trustees in providing approval. Chief Olson provided a positive direction for the department to move, and this direction will continue after Chief Olsons departure. Deputy Chief Shull will act as the Interim Fire Chief until a new Chief is promoted.

March 15th, 2008- The Dwight Fire District concluded its Firefighter 2 Academy with live burns at the Illinois Fire Service Institute in Champaign Illinois.  Congratulations to Firefighters Chad Brown, Josh Jahn, Jason Marques, Dan Evans, Justin Kolthoff, Ben Brown (Gardner FD) and Steve Kenmetz (Gardner FD). All of these individuals completed the Academy and are now qualified to take the State of Illinois exam for the title of Firefighter 2.  In addition, all of these individuals have completed the curriculum and successfully challenged the exam for Hazardous Materials at the Awareness level. This concludes approx. 5-1/2 months of schooling, drills and hands on practicals. Well done guys! click here for picture

February 22, 2008- It is with a sad heart to announce the passing of former Assistant Fire Chief Gary Kratochvil after a battle with cancer.  Chief Kratochvil had served the Dwight Fire Department in the 1980's. He will be missed.  5-5-2 Chief, you are going home.

January 01, 2008-  The Dwight Fire department released its yearly run report for year 2007.  Highlights are a total of 174 calls, including 24 structure fires. Total man hours (training & calls) 5,095.88

December 10, 2007- The Dwight Fire Department responded for a report of a Carbon Monoxide detector activated within a residence.  Upon arrival, elevated levels were detected within the residence.  The structure was evacuated and levels were detected in the furnace exhaust in excess of 2000 ppm (parts per million) and 75 ppm within the structure itself.  Dwight Fire officials would like to remind its residents to have a working CO detector within 15 feet of sleeping quarters and if possible, every level of your home.  Without a doubt, the fact the residents had working CO detectors and heeded the warning contributed to a positive outcome of this call.  In addition, DFD officials strongly support the idea of a yearly inspection of your furnace by a qualified individual.

December 01, 2007- With winter being upon us here in Illinois, the Dwight Fire Department would like to ask its residents to help us help you.  Please, if you have a fire hydrant near or in your yard, please take the time to keep it cleared of snow and debris.  This simple act can save time and quite possibly, a life, in the case of an emergency. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail the Chief polson@dwightfire.org

November 4th, 2007-At 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2007 the Dwight Fire Department will
square off against the Dwight Police Department in a Charity Volleyball
Game in the Dwight High School Gym. Donations are done by free will,
donate as much as you want. All proceeds will go to Children's Charities
of Dwight. This match up is just one of a series of match ups with the
two departments. The two departments will match up again in March for a
Basketball Game and again in June for a softball game. All events are
 done for charity.

Kevin Holohan, Fire Prevention Administrator for the Dwight Fire
Department has developed these charity events for several reasons. These
events were developed to help bring the two departments together to have
fun outside of the job area, to provide a community service to help out
the community, and to help get the community involved with the two
departments, to interact with the people of the community, and to serve as
role models for young people and the community.

October 19th, 2007- Dwight Fire recently underwent a comprehensive audit through an independent agency, ISO.  The results were that Dwight Fire was able to lower its ISO rating from a previous class 6 to a class 4 within the village.  The result to the taxpayer is that the ISO rating can directly affect a homeowners fire insurance premiums.  Currently, ratings range from 1 (best) to 9 (worst). This rating reduction is a tangible result of the hard work and dedication the Firefighters, Officers, Chiefs and Trustees have towards making our community a better place to live.  We could not do what we do without your continued support so for that we thank you.
