Dwight Fire Department members train on their new portable radios Tuesday night. The radios were purchased from an Assistance to Firefighters Grant offered through FEMA. The grant allowed the Dwight Fire Protection District and the Pontiac Fire Departments to purchase the most advanced portable radios, mobile radios and leather carrying straps. These radios will work on UHF (Livingston County), VHF (MABAS and Grundy County), 7000/800 MHz trunked (Kankakee County), STARCOM (Statewide Public Safety Radio and Broadband Radio. These radios will allow the members of Dwight Fire Protection District to talk with any department within the State of Illinois in the case of a MABAS deployment.
