This Holiday season the Dwight Fire Protection District is joining with other Fire Departments to “Keep the Wreath Red”. This program is to remind residents to be fire safe when decorating for the holiday season. Outside our station is a wreath covered in decorative red lights. If there is a fire in our district that is caused by holiday decorations, a red light is replaced with a white light. The lights are lit 24 hours a day during the holiday season and our goal is to “Keep the Wreath Red”. Keep the following safety tips in mind when decorating for the holiday season:

• Use lights that are certified by a National Testing Agency (UL)
• Keep extension cord use to a minimum and never run cords under rugs or carpet
• Never use indoor lights outdoors
• Always turn off holiday lights before leaving home or going to bed
• Do not overload extension cords or electrical circuits
• Never leave candles unattended and keep them away from flammable materials

We all need to do our part to keep the holiday season fire safe.
If you have any questions regarding holiday decorations, please stop by the fire station or call us at (815)584-2373.
